Jets Logo

The following blog was being updated from the Press Box at Giants Stadium during the Jets/Eagles game on Thursday, Sept. 3.  Keep refreshing for updates.

› 10:52 pm: I talked with Vick, Reid and Kolb.  I’ll have a story for you posted tomorrow.

› 10:05 pm: That’s it folks.  The Jets win this one 38-27.  I’m headed down to the locker rooms to do some interviews.  Here are the final numbers for Vick: 7-for-11 for 26 yards in the air, seven rushes for 35 yards, a touchdown (rushing), interception and two fumbles.

› 9:57 pm: Vick is out with just over four minutes to go.  A.J. Feeley is now behind center for the Eagles.

› 9:53 pm: The Jets are trying to end this thing without any chance of overtime.  On the first play of the drive, Ainge hit wide receiver David Clowney for a 73-yard touchdown.  Very nice throw by Ainge, who’s played well tonight with numbers at 10-17 for 160 yards and two touchdowns.  He seems well equipped to be the Jets third QB.  Jets up 38-27.

› 9:49 pm: After an 11-yard sack on Vick, Akers comes on to boot a field goal to put the Eagles within four.  31-27 Jets.

› 9:43 pm: There’s been a lot of dropped balls tonight.  Vick has two and defensive end Josh Gaines has another for the Eagles.  On the Jets side, Ainge has one and defensive tackle Howard Green another.  In case you’re adding, that’s five.

› 9:14 pm: Gotta say I’m very impressed by Woodhead.  Not only did he just score his second touchdown, but he’s had several really nice runs.  He’s only about 5’7″, but has quickness and an ability to cut through holes and change direction.  I’d like to see him catch a few passes.  Jets up now 31-24.

› 9:01 pm: Another nice run by Woodhead with a 44-yard run through the Eagles defense.  That set up a short pass into the end zone by backup to the backup quarterback Erik Ainge to receiver Wallace Wright.

› 8:55 pm: Eagles coach Andy Reid said this week that Vick would get a lot more playing time in the second half.  He’s the starting QB out of the half for the Eagles.

› 8:35 pm: Feeley with another field goal to end

› 8:30 pm: Here’s what Sanchez had to say about the Jets scoring in their first series: “It gave us a lot of confidence as a first group.  We were real efficient out there in the passing game and getting completions, not just on the first read, but going through my progressions.  Having the kind of time a quarterback needs.  The offensive line did a great job so we’re excited about going down to Houston and kicking this thing off.”  Thanks Jets’ P.R.

› 8:26 pm: The Eagles are now up by 10 heading into halftime.  Backup quarterback Kevin Kolb just hit tight end Tony Curtis from 12 yards out to increase their lead.  Kolb is looking pretty good tonight: 8-16 for 110 yards and a TD.  Curtis has four catches for 40 yards.

› 8:15 pm: Vick tried going for the end zone on a deep pass, but instead was picked off there.  He’s 0-for-1 passing with four rushes for nine yards and a score.  Sorry, it’s a lot of Vick stuff, but that seems to be the story today, especially now that we know when he’s going to play during the regular season.

› 8:02 pm: I used to love watching Eagles kicker David Akers.  The guy was automatic.  Then, he struggled a bit last year, going 2-for-10 from beyond 40 yards.  I actually, for a moment, thought he might be cut.  That was not to be and he is back, just connecting for a 48-yard field goal to put Philadelphia up 17-14.

› 7:48 pm: That was quick.  Two plays after Vick’s score, running back Danny Woodhead rushed 55 yards for the touchdown.  It was the first trip to the end zone of the second-year pro’s career.  Tied game, 14-14.

› 7:48 pm: Vick has entered the… end zone.   After Kellen Clemens’ pass was picked off by Eagles cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu and run to the Jets’ 2 yard line, Vick took the ball on the next play and rushed it up the middle for the score.  It was Vick’s first touchdown since he was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2006.

› 7:23 pm: It was interesting to see the Jets give up a score on their first defensive series of the game; interesting to see how they’d respond.  Mark Sanchez, the newly named Jets starting QB, was excellent through the air.  The rookie hit wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery in the end zone on a 21-yard pass in traffic.  For a second, I thought he was cutting it too close, but that’s why I’m sitting here and he’s down there.

› 7:08 pm: Vick couldn’t get it done, but LeSean McCoy could.  The backup running back rushed two yards for the score, putting the Eagles up 7-0.  McCoy, a hot prospect among fantasy football enthusiasts, looked strong on the rush.

› 7:08 pm: It took just two plays for Vick to enter the game, and he did so to a shower of boos.  The former full-time QB took the snap and rushed for two yards up the middle.  He was taken out after the play, only to return one later for a similar play.  This time Vick slipped for a one-yard loss.

› 7:01 pm: Tons of lineup changes tonight.  It is, after all, the final game of the preseason.  That means no Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, DeSean Jackson and the list goes on for the Eagles.  The Jets, however, look to be playing a majority of their starters, including Mark Sanchez.

› 6:14 pm: The biggest storyline has to be how Michael Vick plays for the Eagles tonight.  Vick, who was told earlier today by Commissioner Roger Goodell that he can play in the regular season starting Week 3, is expected to get a ton of touches.
